Top 10 Most Reported Bugs in the First Half of 2021

Here is a list ofthe10most commonfunctional bugson our clients' websites, as selected by our experts:

Email not received1

Email Not Received

According to our specialists, emails not being received is the most common issue. Most often, this problem occurs when a customer purchases an item—specifically, when an email is supposed to notify the customer that payment for the product has been received. It also frequently occurs when a customer creates an account, when a confirmation email is sent.

Impact:

When it comes to an order confirmation email, the customer becomes concerned and finds themselves having to contact you on their own, which will leave them with a negative experience. If it’s an account creation confirmation email, for example, it simply prevents them from proceeding through the checkout process.

Button not responding2

The button that isn't responding

The second most commonly reported functional bug by our teams is the lack of response after clicking a button. We’ve all encountered this problem before: clicking an “Add to Cart” or “Send Message” button and finding that nothing happens…

This bug is extremely frustrating for users; it causes many of them to abandon the service and damages the company's brand image.

In this case, the JavaScript code implemented on the site may be blocked by various factors, such as firewalls, antivirus software, ad blockers, etc.

Especially on e-commerce sites, this problem can quickly become detrimental, since most visitors will instinctively leave the site without trying to figure out what might be causing the issue.

Example of a 400 error (intentional error in our website's URL)

400–500 errors

400 / 500 Errors

Next are400 and 500 errors, whichreally detract from the user experience because they prevent users from continuing and cannot be worked around.

There are many different 400 errors (more than 35) and they can indicate various problems that have occurred between the server and the browser. 500 errors, on the other hand, are fewer in number than 400 errors (about 20) and indicate issues on the server side only.

Impact:

These technical errors often prevent users from proceeding. Furthermore, when users encounter an error message on the site, the site’s image and the trust it inspires suffer greatly.

4Website Display Issue

Website Display Issue

In fourth place is a website display error, often caused by a modified script or a CMS update… and that’s how your website’s design gets messed up.

Even if a display bug isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, you lose credibility and damage your reputation among your website's users. What a shame for your marketing team, which is doing its best to showcase your business.

The Emptying Basket5

The shopping cart is emptying

The fifth bug on our list is extremely frustrating for customers. It most often occurs when switching pages while browsing the site. Just when the customer has spent some time carefully selecting their items, this glitch causes the shopping cart to be reset to zero, with no way to undo it.

This is a highly frustrating and disappointing bug for the customer, who, in most cases, will leave the site to avoid having to repeat their search and find a better option elsewhere.

Unable to log in to the customer account 6

Unable to log in to the customer account

Just like buttons that don't respond, being unable to log in to a customer account is a very common reason for users to leave the site.

Imagine this… You go to your login page. You enter your username and password. They’re accepted, but you aren’t recognized as you browse the site. You can’t access your customer account, and you can’t do what you want to do.

Isn't that disappointing?

It is your customers' loyalty and your brand image that are being tarnished.

Product unavailable7

Product incorrectly listed as unavailable

This common bug on e-commerce platforms is one of the most frustrating and damaging to a company's brand image.

You have some of this product in stock, a user on your site wants to buy one, but your site says the product is out of stock… when it isn’t. What a shame for everyone…

This bug is often caused by poor management of online inventory or the e-commerce platform.

Product Price Not Persistent 8

Product Price Not Persistent

This is a technical error that displays a retail price on the website but does not take into account a promo code, a loyalty discount, or a gift certificate.

The customer then becomes frustrated at not being able to take advantage of the discount they were expecting and, in the vast majority of cases, leaves the site to find a better alternative.

Unexpected Logout from the Customer Account 9

Unexpected Logout from the Customer Account

When a customer has logged in and spent some time browsing the site—or even filling their shopping cart—the account suddenly logs out without warning or notification, and the user may find that their shopping cart has been emptied.

A very significant and recurring annoyance that may not necessarily prevent users from using the site, but will be a real nightmare for their browsing experience—especially since you’ve put so much effort into this part of your site.

Error message during payment

10

Error message during payment

The10thbugon our top 10 list relates to payments on e-commerce sites and occurs when the customer is entering their banking information. When they click the confirmation button, an error message appears stating that the payment could not be processed. The order is not placed, and the payment is not processed.

This list of the 10 most common bugs was compiled by our experts and illustrates the importance of implementing an automated functional testing strategy.
